Hi-Lo opens Portmore store
The largest store in the Hi-Lo chain, opened in Portmore last Saturday. This fulfilled GraceKennedy's long-held desire, to open a store in that community. The store represents a $94-million investment by GraceKennedy.
"We have been hoping for a long time to become more deeply involved in this dynamic community," notes Don Wehby, group chief operating officer. "We went to great lengths to ensure that Portmore was getting a store that is suited to the needs of that community. The store is centrally located with ample parking space, a great assortment of products and wide aisles for an enhanced shopping experience. Most of the 47 employees are from Portmore."
Extended opening hours
Because most of Portmore's residents work outside of the community, the store has extended opening hours for the convenience of late shoppers throughout the year. Additionally, it was announced at the opening that, from December 23 until Christmas morning, the store would remain open until the last customer leaves, for added conveni-ence in this busy season.
Hi-Lo Portmore has also introduced a number of attractive features which will result in instant savings at the cash register. These include a Western Union discount, a Senior Citizens' discount and participation in the Magna Rewards card plan. Child-friendly shopping carts are available for family outings to the store.
Douglas Orane - GracKennedy chairman and CEO, Don Wehby, and Erwin Burton,CEO of GK Foods, were all on hand to participate in the opening-day activities.
