Get the evidence, Mr Christie

THE EDITOR, Sir:

There is no doubt that the contractor general is colourful, flamboyant and courageous. I admire his zealousness and enthusiasm.

Having said that, his penchant for publicity and the rash remarks contained in many of his pronouncements, without supporting evidence, is reaching to the level of despotism. From casting aspersions on decent folk; dictating to the director of public prosecutions on when to prosecute; assuming the role of valuator (remember his infamous remark regarding the spending of US$120 million for the Sandals Whitehouse hotel "as value for money") when the entire project is a classic example of scientific corruption.

In his report on transactions between Mr Peter Bunting's former firm and Dr Omar Davies' former ministry, he nailed both gentlemen to the wall in the strongest terms, then concluded, according to The Gleaner's headline, that the two gentlemen were "clean".

The contractor general must prepare his investigations fully before jumping for media attention, often sullying reputations without complete documentary evidence. In his latest descent into notoriety, I particularly resent his unnecessary remarks regarding Mr Danny Williams, OJ, a genuine patriot!

The contractor general needs to rise to the standard of the former auditor general, Mr Adrian Strachan, who was strong and firm while presenting a mien of urbanity and suaveness. I wish him well.

I am, etc.,

COURTNEY ILGNER
