SUNDAY SAUCE: What a fillip!

It started out as the hiring of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, which was thrust into the limelight by another Phillips, who gave some great amount of fillip to a certain extradition drama, the likes of which only happen once per millennium.

In this political thriller of international proportions, called 'Dudusgate' in some quarters, 'Golden Eye' found himself in a tangled web, and was renamed 'Eli' by his detractors, who are depending on Phillips' fillip to take back the mantle of leadership from the lady by whom Phillips can never slip.

But, in a commission convened for everyone involved to come clean, Phillips was to give another fillip, this time he being the butt of it. Memoranda of Understanding he did sign, silently and secretly, it's no lie. Now, in the people's Parliament, on Tuesday, the Oranges and the Greens engaged themselves in Moments Of Ugliness (MOUs) replete with puerile 'phillipics'.

These descendants of masters and slaves did not give a hoot that it was Black History Month and the day after Valentine's. Where did the love go so quickly? Nor were they concerned about the children of the land, the nation's future, who might have been looking on. In these desperate days of our lives, the old and the reckless demonstrated that they were no different from the young and the restless. There they were in the company of chaos, trading barbs of bitterness and hatred.

Quiet storm

Imaginary swords and daggers of vitriol were drawn. Verbal arrows and darts flew around the hallowed hall. There was even an invitation to step outside to spar. Just when we thought the days of pulling tongues were a thing of the past. After the brawl came the quiet storm on Wednesday. Phillips faced off with Phipps over Phillips' role in Operation ANTHEM. And that was another heated clip in the ongoing drama of the Manatt, Phelps, Phillips, Phillips and fillips. Stay tuned.
