The Mutual Gallery's first exhibition for 2011 centres around the demonstration of talent among the younger generation of artists with the opening of 'Art Fresh 2011' on Thursday, February 24 at 7 p.m.

Staged in conjunction with RBTT, National Commercial Bank, Capital and Credit Merchant Bank, Ideal Portfolio Services Co, Scotia Private Client Group, Wray and Nephew with their Arbor Mist product, Carreras Group of Companies, Super Plus Food Stores, NEM Insurance Company, Island Mist Spring Water, British Caribbean Insurance Company and KOOL 97, the Mutual Gallery guarantees a display of high standard from this crop of young artists. Guest speaker will be Senator William Tavares-Finson, JP, attorney-at-law.

A diversity of expression is expected in the selection of the 10 artists, mostly graduates of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. The participating artists are Sashawana Buckland, Andrae Green, Leasho Johnson, Monique Lofters, Oliver Myrie in painting; Changel Russell in collage; Diallo Dixon in photography and Sandy McGann in metal work. From overseas, Robert Joyette from St Vincent and Akindele Hickling, who resides in Trinidad, are also taking part, both in painting.

A jury of three; Cecil Cooper, former head of the Painting Department at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts; Professor Emilio D'Melon, also from the Edna Manley College; and Gilou Bauer, curator, Mutual Gallery took on the task of selecting the artwork.

The exhibition closes on March 25, 2011. Gallery opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
