DOCTOR'S ADVICE: Is he satisfying his wife?

Published:Sunday | February 20, 2011 | 12:00 AM

Q Doctor, I am a happily married man but I keep worrying that maybe I don't satisfy my wife.

To tell you the truth, I have always had the feeling that I am a little 'on the small side'. My wife says that this is not true and she always tells me that I am 'at least as big' as other guys who had sex with her when she was young. But I am not so sure.

Admittedly, she does really seem to enjoy making love with me. And she discharges every time. Indeed, sometimes she will orgasm several times in a night.

However, I just feel that I am not doing it well enough for her, or penetrating her deeply enough. So can you suggest anything, doc? Is there a medication which I could buy on the Internet which would give me greater girth and maybe a couple more inches in length?

A For some reason, a considerable number of men are convinced that they really aren't big enough. Mostly, this belief is just foolishness.

I have to congratulate on the fact that you want to make your wife happy in bed. It is good that you are such a caring man.

But please LISTEN to what the woman is saying! She thinks you are big enough. She says that you are 'at least as big' as previous guys who she encountered in the past. She enjoys your lovemaking. And she discharges every time, and sometimes has multiple orgasms.

That is pretty good, isn't it? I think you should be proud of yourself.

Also, I feel that you should bear in mind that women do NOT think about penile size in the same way as men do. Females do NOT often say to themselves: "Gee, I wish my man had an extra couple of inches."

Furthermore, you are probably unaware of the fact that quite a lot of women are actually afraid of the idea of a big penis because they fear that it might hurt them or even tear them apart.

I must admit that surveys have shown that some women say that other factors being equal, they would prefer a largish organ to a small one. But the great majority of females do not waste any time fretting about penile length or girth. They just want a warm, loving, romantic guy, who does his best to satisfy them in the sack. And that is precisely what you are doing!

It seems to me like you have some problems with self-esteem. And if possible, I feel that you should have a few sessions with a counsellor to discuss that. But as far as sex is concerned, it sounds like you are a first-class performer.

Please be happy with that, and fret no more !

Q I am a married woman in my 40s and recently I have been getting hot flashes and sweating attacks in the night. I went to a doctor and she told me where it was the menopause.

She wanted me to go on that hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but I am not so sure about that, doc. I have heard where HRT can give you heart attacks and strokes.

Also, the doctor claimed that it would help the dryness and vaginal discomfort which I have had lately, which is making my sex life a little difficult.

What do you think, doc? Should I try the HRT?

A Well, the symptoms you describe are hot flashes and sweating attacks. These are often due to the menopause. The same is true of the vaginal dryness and discomfort which you report.

Those symptoms do generally respond very well to a short course of HRT. However, what you have heard about HRT is true. Unfortunately, long courses of this therapy can increase the chance of heart attacks and strokes, particularly in women over 60.

However, most doctors agree that a short course of HRT, prescribed in order to get rid of menopause symptoms is okay, and carries very little risk. If you take the hormone pills for a little while, that should get rid of your flashes and your perspiration attacks, and probably your vaginal dryness as well.

But if the vaginal dryness is NOT cured by the HRT tablets, then your doctor will probably prescribe you a short course of HRT in the form of vaginal cream or tablets.

Sounds like you have a pretty good doc, so please be guided by her.

Q I am a man who was recently diagnosed with pressure. So my doctor put me on some tablets to get the blood pressure down to normal levels.

They have worked real well. But from I started taking them, I have completely lost my nature, doc.

Help!

A This a well-known side effect of certain BP pills. But there is no need for alarm. All you have to do is to ask the doctor to switch you to a next type of BP pill. Then your nature will come back.

Q I am 38 and I think I can feel a little lump in my breast. Can I leave it alone, and see what happens?

A No, this would NOT be wise. Please go to a doc right away to have this lump checked out.

Q I am a man who is in really good health. I am 44, but as fit as a man half my age! However, recently I have noticed that whenever time I have sex, the fluid does not travel anything like as far as it used to.

Is this serious, doc?

A No. Scientists have shown in lab experiments that the seminal fluid shoots a long way in most younger men, but only travels a shorter distance when a man reaches 40 or 50.

This is not something to fret about, and it doesn't indicate that you might lose your virility.

Some people think that the man can increase the distance which his fluid travels by building up the pelvic muscles through exercises. If you want to do this, any doctor could explain to you how you can do that type of exercise.

Q I was on holiday in the United States of America last month, met a great guy and ended up going to bed with him. Now, I have real intense itching in my pubic hair, which makes me scratch and scratch in the night!

Why is this, doc?

A You have almost certainly caught crabs, which are tiny creatures called pubic lice. Please see a doctor who can examine you and then prescribe a special skin application that will get rid of these irritating little things.

Q I am a little concerned by the fact that when I walk upstairs, I get a pain running down my left arm. The same thing happens when I have sex.

A This could well be angina, which is a heart problem. Please see a doc right away. You will definitely need an electrical test on the heart. Meanwhile, take things easy, and above all do not smoke !
