Polo for charity

WESTERN BUREAU:James Robertson, minister of mining and energy; Andy Vernon, Kurt Chin, a constant scoring threat, and Paul Taylor were crowned the Hanover Charities Polo champions on Sunday, February 20.
The four, representing team 'ATL Britannia - Land Rover', displaced ATL Autohaus Audi's Mark Waites, John Waites, John Byles and Shane Chin, all in the name of charity.
Women who wore their best Sunday whites acessorised by beautiful hats, while men had eyes only for their brood. In fact, it was an afternoon of doting dads and cute children, adding immense colour and character to grounds of the Chukka Blue Ranch in Hanover.
London socialite Aiste Anusaite-Daubaras, who donned one of the most exciting headpieces, won the Best Hat competition.
Aiming to raise $1 million in order to transform the lives of the people of Hanover, the Chukka event may easily have added its fair amount to the jackpot raised by the organisers of the annual Sugar Cane Ball at Round Hill the previous Saturday night.
Each year, the two partner to stage the auspicious Hanover Charity Polo event.
"Proceeds collected from this match will go towards the many ventures being undertaken by the Hanover Charities, and we have seen first-hand the actual work being done and the positive impact that has resulted from the donations," said John Byles, co-managing director of Chukka Caribbean Adventures.
As a nature-based adventure company, Chukka has incorporated several of the surrounding communities in Hanover in its tours as most of its employees are from these same areas that benefit from the Hanover Charities.
