The EVE brand welcomed Kaliese Spencer to the '1st Family of Fine Foods' with a novel announcement on Thursday, May 5, the 'eve' of her 24th birthday.

Facey Commodity's senior general manager for the Consumer Products Division, Richard Barrow, lauded Spencer's already-outstanding performances and impressive potential to achieve more.

He said that having taken note of her winning ways at several IAAF Diamond League meets during 2010, EVE seized the opportunity presented by her MVP Track & Field Club to negotiate a sponsorship deal.

New venture

"This evening's celebration marks EVE's new venture into athlete endorsement sponsorship and, as a brand which has a strong reputation for its nurturing qualities, we believe that the relationship that is being forged with Kaliese represents a glorious opportunity to help nurture a young athlete who has grown up on some of our EVE products and who already truly loves the brand!" He added that given EVE's traditionally warm and family-oriented profile, it was also good to be working with an athlete who reflected similar qualities.

Held at the Terra Nova All Suite hotel on Waterloo road, he added, "She really has a nice disposition despite having already achieved so much. EVE welcomes the opportunity to grow with this athlete, and to be able to support and share in the excellence we know she will continue to achieve," he said.

Other speakers included Bruce James, MVP Track & Field Club president; Sherone Simpson, Olympic gold and silver medallist; Deon Hemmings-McCatty, Spencer's mentor; Hubert Lawrence, track and field statistician and analyst; and Shelldon McKenzie, a special friend of Spencer.
