WESTERN BUREAU:
Renowned for his fire, energy and enthusiasm, Michael Shaw has been tasked with the job of rekindling old relationships and blazing new ones with customers in the parishes of St Ann, Trelawny, Hanover, St James and Westmoreland.
The first burners were lit on Friday, June 17 at a welcome reception in his honour at Palmyra Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, where the new vice-president of Metro North was officially 'ordained' into the business community.
Those who received the red-hot invitation were out in their numbers for this evening, curious to find out more about the man who had succeeded in whetting their appetites.
"He boasts a reputation of an outstanding and unmatched record of performance at Scotiabank," said an elated Joylene Griffiths-Irving, the bank's director of public and corporate affairs.
With 10 branches under his portfolio, Shaw, who has served the bank for the last 30 years, will be based at the Sam Sharpe Square branch in Montego Bay.
"He is a relationship builder, he is streetwise, he exceeds people's expectations," said Griffiths-Irving, adding that Shaw is definitely the man for the job.
Significant improvements
According to Griffiths-Irving, he has been strategically placed because there has been significant improvements in all the places he has worked. "Putting him in this new position allows him to share his know-how with his colleagues."
Interestingly, Shaw started as a teller supervisor, and was later appointed assistant manager. He went on to head Scotiabank UWI, Mona campus, Savann-la-Mar, King Street and now this new position.
The bank's president, Bruce Bowen, who was recently named head of the Jamaica Bankers' Association, a number of the organisation's senior executives, including Michael Thompson, Anya Schnoor, Jackie Sharpe, Monique Todd, Michael Jones, Michael Thompson and, branch manager of Montego Bay, Linley Reynolds were in attendance.
