Mayor of Mount Vernon, NY, salutes Lorna Golding

A special reception was held in honour of Lorna Golding, wife of Prime Minister Bruce Golding, on June 18 at the Mount Vernon City Hall in New York where she was presented with a key to the city. Mrs Golding visited Mount Vernon to commemorate Caribbean American Heritage Month in Westchester County.

The reception was held by mayor of Mount Vernon, Clinton I. Young Jr, and Westchester County Board of Legislators Vice-Chairman, Lyndon Williams. Mayor Young Jr noted that it was his pleasure to present Mrs Golding with the key to city of Mount Vernon.

"Her altruistic spirit and strength resonated with many community members in our city. She has worked tirelessly to promote literacy and children's programmes throughout the world.

Mrs Golding noted, "I will always remember the warm reception I received here. I can't wait to go back to Jamaica and tell the prime minister of the wonderful time I had in Mount Vernon," she said.

She was greeted by many local dignitaries and community members, including members of the City Council. The City of Mount Vernon is home to the largest Caribbean-American community in Westchester County.

"As a proud Caribbean American, I believe Mrs Golding serves as a true inspiration to all ethnic groups in Mount Vernon. On behalf of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, I join Mayor Young in celebrating Caribbean Heritage Month and honouring Mrs Golding in our city," Westchester County Board of Legislators Vice-Chairman, Lyndon Williams, said.
