Strathmore Great House, located in upper St Andrew and built in 1931, is the new official residence of European Union Ambassador Marco Mazzocchi Alemanni and his wife, Fiela. And, to show it off to a select groups of guests on July 28, the ambassador and his wife hosted a concert befitting the majesty of the edifice and in celebration of the home.

The ambassador said the classical repertoire were aptly selected pieces from composers of the historic period when the house was first built. The musicians were also carefully chosen and represented the best in violin, cello and piano players led by Paulette Bellamy and including a Cuban cellist. "They are from the masters of the classics to the classics of Jamaican music," he said as he welcomed guests prior to the start of Part 1 of the concert.

The concert was in two 45-minute parts with the selections in Part 1 coming from Schumann, Debussy and Ravel. The segment ended with the latter's happy and uptempo Golliwog's Cakewalk. During the intermission, guests enjoyed a light buffet. Part 2 featured a selection of Jamaican folk songs: Liza, Evenin' Time, Marley's medley, Brown Girl and Coconut Woman.
