Bog Walk, St Catherine:

THOUGH A little disappointed, Petra-Ann Campbell said she had much to be thankful for, after she saw her Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) results on Friday

The unassuming 17-year-old Immaculate Conception High student copped 10 subjects: six grade one and four grade two passes. Two of the subjects were sat privately.

"I was expecting these results, but then I had weak areas, so I wasn't so sure about getting all ones which I was really working for," she said smiling proudly.

But, the Ewarton Primary School past student's achievement did not come without sacrifice, as she journeyed from Bog Walk to pursue her secondary education. Her parents accompanied her to the bus stop, every morning, as she lives in an area where people were known to be held up and robbed, especially early mornings. However, she was never daunted.

"I studied late at nights, woke up in the morning like three o'clock or after two to study and start preparing for school at four," she explained. "On Saturdays, I had two classes from three until seven, so it was basically Monday to Saturday for classes, and Sunday, it was church and everything else."

An active member of her school's environmental and service clubs and the Power of Faith Ministries, Bog Walk, Campbell has carefully mapped out her career.

"I like the sciences, but I did the business subjects, so probably I could have something to rely on if the sciences didn't work out. I want to be a veterinarian or a paediatrician, and then being a vet, I might just operate my own business," she explained.

The consistent top achiever heaps praises on her family, teachers and the church for their continued support and motivation.

"The fact that everybody supported me and was looking for me to do well, and of course my faith in God, really motivated me to achieve," said Campbell.
