TOWN HEAD, Westmoreland:

A total of $50,000 was handed over to two groups and an individual from funds garnered through the 2012 staging of the Miss Townhead Talent and Awareness Pageant.

The presentations were made at Hotel Commingle last Wednesday to the Townhead and Savannah Football Clubs and 19-year-old paraplegic, Damian McGrowder.

Representatives from the Townhead Football Club (FC) collected a cash donation, while the Savannah FC received football kits. McGrowder was also given cash to assist with offsetting some of his expenses.

"Every year, the competition is held and proceeds from it are used to improve the community in some way," said pageant organiser Windel Dawson of Rollin Promotions.

"This year, I'm pleased to be able to assist again - especially young McGrowder, who had this nasty fall some two years now."

McGrowder fell from a tree, has been unable to walk since, and is dependent on his fellow community members and the use of a wheelchair.

Townhead FC is among the teams in the Westmoreland Major League football competition, while Savannah FC was a finalist in the Western Confed Super League.
