Hanover NGOs provide free dental care

Healing the Children North East, a non-profit organisation based in the United States (US) partnered with The Tryall Fund in Sandy Bay and Kiwanis Club of Hopewell to sponsor a free, week-long dental- health clinic for pre-school and primary-aged children in Hanover from May 7 to 10.

The clinic held at The Christian Deliverance Center in Hopewell was staffed by a volunteer team of dentists and hygienists from the US. The team provided cleanings, extractions, restorative procedures and instruction in oral hygiene. Additional help was provided by volunteers from The Tryall Fund and Kiwanis Club of Hopewell. The mission will also be documented by graduate student documentary film-makers from the US.

According to chairperson of the Tryall Fund, Terri McGraw, "The Tryall Fund is so proud to be a part of this exciting week-long mission with the intent of providing dental services to close to 400 children." She said also that Tryall Fund board member Nanci Kraus was instrumental in coordinating the three groups to make the event a reality.

Kiwanis Club member Hope Markes explained that when the club was approached for assistance, there was no hesitation, as working with young children is one of the main focal points of the club. Colgate toothbrushes, toothpaste, educational brochures and posters were generously donated by Kirk Distributors.

Healing The Children North East's purpose is to help children throughout the world receive medical care unavailable to them due to a lack of medical and financial resources or health insurance. The Tryall Fund is a non-profit organisation committed to supporting health and education initiatives in Hanover.
