Too much for the working class

THE EDITOR, Sir:
Without computations which will confuse many employees, I would like to ask, how much more can the working sector of Jamaica take?
Without any direct increases to basic salaries (because of the economic crisis), there has been a constant increase in deductions to the Government of Jamaica coffers. Through Government's crafty policies, which are pushing us below the poverty line daily, our net pay is shrinking.
Along with the recent increase in the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) threshold, the intended education tax increase will have a far-reaching effect. Without the creation of jobs, thus introducing new contributors to the NIS and education tax pool, the current pool will be burdened. The number of pensioners is increasing.
Is it right to punish us for the delinquent borrowers of state student loans? I had a loan and it is paid off. The Students' Loan Bureau needs to get proactive and concentrate on collections.
Mr Editor, where is the tax reform? We are being double and triple taxed. PAYE 25 per cent up front, no questions asked; gas tax passed on in taxi and bus fares and travelling expenses; GCT on electricity (it speaks for itself), GCT on basic food items (needs), not wants.
Too much pressure on the donkey back!
