Slim gains from sports shameful

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is an absolute world tragedy that Jamaica has NOT been able to capatalise on its sports dominance and success at the Olympics. These opportunities come and go.

First culprit is:

1. PUMA: It's good for Bolt and Puma, not Jamaica. Nike or adidas should be considered because they have the ability and finance to enhance the Jamaican sports brand.

Jamaica must INVEST in facilities, thus attracting sports events and individuals to Jamaica. Facilities in Montego Bay are the key, particularly a sports facility that can be utilised for numerous sporting events. Tourism and sports have done wonders for other countries. Look at the St Juan Shoot-out, Alaska Shoot-out, Paradise Island Shootout. Jamaica must be 'sports,' and not just cricket and track and field.

Jamaica MUST realise its success in more appealing sports such as basketball.

Jamaica must open up to experts beyond its borders.
