THE EDITOR, Sir:

On behalf of the organisers and producers of the Dennis Brown birthday celebration held at the Kingston waterfront on Sunday, March 17, I thank all those who participated to make it a success, beyond our expectations. The support of lovers of reggae music, from all classes and creeds, was inspiring.

I must single out my partners, Junior Lincoln of the Dennis Brown Trust and the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association, Lance Cowan and Joan Higgins of the Dennis Brown Trust, Trevor 'Leggo' Douglas of Leggo Records and Sounds & Pressure, Charles Campbell of Jamaica Reggae Industry Association, Herbie Miller of Sounds & Pressure and the Jamaica Music Museum, and Colin Leslie of Sounds & Pressure and the Dennis Brown Trust.

CHEERS TO SPONSORS

Kudos also to the major sponsors, the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Tourism Enhancement Fund, Wisynco, KFC, and the media, and the local sponsors, McMasters, Mack's Meats, Sugar Hardware and Tools, Carousel Store, the Urban Development Corporation, and those in the downtown Kingston communities who worked passionately to make this event happen.

We thank the scores of entertainers and musicians who performed out of love and respect for Dennis Brown and downtown Kingston, where the Jamaican music industry gestated. And last, but not least, praise to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, particularly Superintendent Steve McGregor, who provided not only good security, but advice and friendly support.

The success of the event proves what belief in a vision, unity and teamwork can accomplish, and we hope that it sends a clear signal that downtown is poised for a serious transformation.
