Maurice Facey's memorable roots

Published:Tuesday | April 9, 2013 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is with regret we learnt of the death of business titan Maurice Facey, 'the godfather of commercial real estate development in Kingston'.

He was the product of Jamaica's 'purple and white'. No, not the 'Fortis Cadere Cadere' of North Street, but 'AEDIFICAMUS' of the cool hills of Manchester. DeCarteret College and Kingston College were founded by Lord Bishop George Frederick Cecil deCarteret, but it was the spirit of the Mandeville school that embodies the lifetime achievements of Mr Facey.

It was the Mandeville Preparatory School (founded in 1919) that provided a quality education, and whose motto AEDIFICAMUS ('We Are Building') that informed Maurice's creative input to 'build' and overcome economic hurdles, thus leaving a legacy for all students to imitate.

AEDIFICAMUS! Walk good!
