Our country is at risk

THE EDITOR, Sir:
JAMAICA WOKE up yesterday morning to the news of the brutal murder of another policeman. But as a people, do we really place any significance on the murdering of our law-enforcement officers?
The attack on law and order is really confirming that, as a country, our civilisation is at risk. What we are doing is attacking the foundation of law and order. Can we really afford to sit down and allow this to continue?
In a country not experiencing civil war (or are we?), this is a most frightening situation.
It is full time that we come together as one people and end this scourge that has permeated our society for far too long. And, let us not lay all the blame at the feet of our politicians. We are all stakeholders in this process, but, sadly, too many persons turn a blind eye. This attitude has, over the years, been the nursery for criminality.
We need to stop the nonsense of being afraid to give information to the police. There are so many channels available to us now - channels that don't require identification or direct contact with any policeman/woman. The time has come when we need to decide the Jamaica that we want to live in.
This is surely a time to bond together and assist in crime management. We need to realise that when our law enforcers are being attacked and murdered, we will be a nation at risk.
The blood of the innocent is crying out. Enough is enough!
