Government should provide more parks

Published:Saturday | June 8, 2013 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As Jamaicans get more and more health conscious, there is a great need for more community parks in our neighbourhoods. We need to walk more in well-lit and fairly safe surroundings.

As far as I know, our options in St Andrew are limited to Emancipation Park (crowded and snarling traffic to get there in the evenings), Shortwood football field (not well lit), Police Officers' Club and the Mona Dam (where the fee is too high).

If we do not live in proximity to these parks, we have no option but to walk on the roads, subject ourselves to cars whizzing by, dogs chasing us and being held up by thugs.

The Government must provide parks in more of our communities. Agree?
