J. Wray & Nephew Limited's famous rum brands, Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum and Appleton Jamaica Rum, have expanded Jamaica's foray into the lucrative high-end entertainment and tourism market by sponsoring this year's SPF Weekend.

This year marks the third staging of Summer Playground Fantasy (SPF) Weekend, the St Ann premium event series. From August 2-5, partygoers can partake in the six events the series has to offer.

The four marquee events for SPF Weekend are the SPF Catamaran Cruise; BNM: Eye Candy; Fiction Beach; and Soirée SPF-04. In addition to these events, the Jewel Dunn's River Beach Resort & Spa will be hosting two lymes for the series: the SPF Pool Party on August 3, and the series-closing SPF Bubbles BBQ at the beach on August 5.

Gary Dixon, head of marketing at J. Wray & Nephew Limited, notes: "The Appleton brands and SPF Weekend will transform the normally slower periods for hotels and related industries to one of dynamic traffic for the various stakeholders in St Ann".

I'm Legal Campaign

Dixon also noted that the 'I'm Legal' campaign would be implemented at all SPF Weekend events, in keeping with J. Wray & Nephew Limited's commitment to prevent underage drinking. "We have worked closely with the promoters of SPF Weekend 2013 to ensure that the campaign will be implemented at all SPF events. Patrons will be required to show IDs proving that they are above 18 years of age, in order to enter and enjoy the experience.

There will be an 'I'm Legal' redemption centre, where patrons with season tickets will go through the age verification and receive a season arm band if they are of the legal drinking age. There will also be check points at the events where patrons who have purchased tickets for the individual parties will be required to show IDs to receive an 'I'm Legal' armband which allows them access to the event. Accepted forms of ID are a driver's licence, a national ID or a passport."
