Wisynco is top manufacturer

The Wisynco Group came out on top at the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association's (JMA) annual awards banquet last Thursday, winning the prestigious Governor General's Trophy for manufacturer of the year.

The company also won the Charles Henderson-Davis award for breakthrough product of the year with its line of Schweppes soft drinks.

Wisynco's grapefruit-flavoured version of Schweppes was introduced in the third quarter of 2011 to rival the well-established and popular Jamaican grapefruit beverage brand Ting.

Spur Tree Spices also did well, winning two awards including the Ray Hadeed award for Best SME for its range of sauces. The company also won the champion exporter award in the category of small exporter.

Petrojam was awarded the Prime Minister's Cup for the champion exporter award in the category of large exporter.

P.A. Benjamin won two awards: the President's Cup for the champion exporter in the medium enterprise category, as well as the Ministry of Industry Investment and Commerce award for competitiveness.

Caribbean Producers Jamaica won the Eddie Hall award for new manufacturer of the year.

Other award recipients included J. Wray and Nephew, Newport Fersan, Berger Paints Jamaica, Caribbean Foods Limited, Honey Bun Limited, Dairy Industries Limited, Springvale Enterprises, Journey's End, D'Nex Step Sandals and Accessories, Nicorp Limited, Caribbean Cement Company, Lithographic Printers, and Boss Furniture Company.

Red Stripe won two special recognition awards for community development and for HIV/AIDS advocacy.
