At a relaxed luncheon at the Spanish ambassador's residence, The Spanish-Jamaican Foundation, recently hosted a media appreciation luncheon.

"We'd like to commend the role of the media," said Spanish Ambassador Celsa Nuño, elaborating that the media's role as watchdogs, does not go unnoticed. Nuño said the function, held in Kingston, was an opportunity to not only put names to faces, but to extend their thanks to the Jamaican media for their continued support and also to herald in Spanish National Day on October 12.

Nuño gave a summary of the happenings in Spain such as their improving export deficit in relation to their import deficit; strong welfare system, and encouraging entrepreneurship.

"It's still a long way ahead, but we're recovering from the recession," she said.

She noted the strong bilateral ties with Jamaica and some of the projects which the foundation is spearheading to include teaching Spanish as a foreign language; their wellness initiative, which involved training of Child Development Agency staff on trauma and play therapy during Child Month; as well as other projects in sports, special needs, and culture/cuisine.
