WESTERN BUREAU:

Long before the results were announced, those watching the NBC show 'The Voice' at Pier One in Montego Bay were asking, "Who is going to come second or third?"

Of the approximate 500 persons who packed into the waterfront restaurant and bar on Tuesday night for the exhilarating finale, there was one winner. "We have no doubts who the winner is," declared Damion Royes before the results.

"There is only one winner, Tessanne Chin," chipped in Maurice Bennett.

Fans of all ages had converged on the downtown venue, some as young as one year old, forcing Pier One to bring in additional tables and chairs. The event, sponsored by The Gleaner, Skyy Vodka and #Teamtessanne, had been oversubscribed by persons from across the parish of St James.

Most of those who turned out both for the Twitter-and-Watch party on Monday and the finale on Tuesday, were convinced that Tessanne would take the 'Voice' crown home to Jamaica. And the indomitable songstress didn't disappoint!

"Tessanne has a connection with the people, not just Jamaicans, but people across America, she has a natural talent of connectivity, and the timing is excellent," stated Jamaica's unofficial ambassador in the north-east USA, Christopher Dobson. A business development manager with the Jamaica Tourist Board, Dobson, who attended the Pier One party, said several travel agents with whom he does business voted for Chin, "Asian-Americans, Hispanics, blacks, whites nationwide were voting because they have identified her talent." He added that Jamaica could not pay for the type of branding and exposure that Tessanne's appearance on 'The Voice' has given.
