JN Foundation supports RISE Life

The RISE Life Management Services has been further strengthened following the recent signing of a funding agreement with the Jamaica National Building Society Foundation.

The organisation has received $1.9m from the JN Foundation to assist with sustaining its programmes targeting young adults age 15 to 24 years.

With a strong presence in six inner-city communities in Kingston, RISE Life caters to approximately 250 participants who are poised to become beneficiaries of the programmes to be implemented.

Sonita Abrahams, executive director at RISE Life Manage-ment, said the money will assist the ongoing remedial and life-skills programmes.

"We are grateful for the support we have received from JN Foundation," Abrahams, stated. "We want to continue to reach out to communities and continue our programmes that will help our participants to become self-sufficient."

One of the training programmes offered is in entrepreneurship, which not only imparts useful skills and knowledge to the young people but also trains them to become leaders in their communities.

RISE Life Management Programmes Manager Shawn McGregor, a former RISE Life youth participant, said the work of the organisation is highly effective for young adults, due to the fact that programmes are tailored to make them more effective individuals.

"Great emphasis is placed on the overall development of participants; we have various programmes, including a sporting component, capacity building, and inter-clubbing, which allows club members to meet with others. Participants are encouraged to transfer and apply their leadership skills in different areas," McGregor stated.

Saffrey Brown, general manager of the foundation, was delighted after formally signing the funding agreement.

"RISE Life Management has been doing a great job over the years; and what has particularly appealed to us is its work for the development and creation of independence, both physically and emotionally, among the participants," Brown said.
