Shaggy's friends can pledge on spot - Scotiabank creates avenue for giving during concert

Scotiabank has announced that attendees to the Shaggy & Friends benefit concert for the Bustamante Hospital for Children will be able to complete pledges in support of the institution while at the event.

Scotiabank volunteers will host a designated pledge tent, equipped with point-of-sale machines to accept debit and credit card transactions.

"The wonderful thing about Shaggy & Friends is that the event, and Shaggy's passion for Bustamante Hospital for Children, move people to action. We want that action to complete the circle, right there at the event. By putting the point-of-sale machines in place, we are making it easier for all event guests to translate their compassion for the cause into a pledge in real time," said Monique Todd, vice-president - marketing, public & corporate affairs at Scotiabank Jamaica.

A foundation supporter of Shaggy & Friends, Scotiabank is also a long-time supporter of the Bustamante hospital for Children.

"Scotiabank and its employees have done so much for the hospital. They have been real change makers for us, not only in terms of financial support, but also in devoting their time," said Dr Lambert Innis, consultant anaesthetist and head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the hospital.

"We welcome all that they do to bring others to support our efforts to deliver the very best care to our young patients," added Dr Lambert.

Scotiabank International funds the telemedicine component of the Caribbean Sick Kids Paediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Project at the hospital, which is addressing the region's gaps in research, care, and education in paediatric cancer.

Locally, Scotiabank Jamaica has donated $5 million in support of heart surgeries, and renovated public areas at the hospital.

Additionally, the Scotia Foundation provides GoGSAT services so that children sitting the exam can keep pace with their preparations while under medical care. All this happens while Scotia volunteers make regular cheer visits to the young patients at the hospital.
