Hats off to the National Gallery

THE EDITOR, Sir:

This is an open letter to the National Gallery of Jamaica.

I write this note with nothing but a grateful spirit to express congratulations and thanks to the members of your Education Department.

On Friday, January 10, I scampered around Kingston in search of information to assist my daughter with a school art project that required research on several Barrington Watson pieces.

After not finding anything of substance elsewhere, I called your organisation and was expertly guided by a female member of the National Gallery's Education Department, who advised that I should visit your location.

I was even more impressed when I arrived a few minutes later, to find - or certainly it seemed - that all members of the team were briefed on my needs, and several publications on the work of the artist were ready and waiting for me to peruse.

The experience got even better when your staff were able to immediately identify the paintings of interest and knew exactly in which publications the detailed information on each could be found.

Kudos to your team members; their display of in-depth knowledge, professionalism, and sheer love for their job were evident.

Thanks again for this great experience. I am now even more confident that, with their intervention, my daughter will receive an excellent grade for her project! I have also learnt that, indeed, the National Gallery of Jamaica is the true reservoir of all 'information art' in Jamaica.
