THE JURY heard evidence yesterday at the murder trial of entertainer Vybz Kartel that a police sergeant extracted data from a BlackBerry phone which had images of a light-skinned man with a tattoo on his right forearm titled 'Boss' .

Sergeant Patrick Linton, formerly attached to the Cybercrime Unit, made the disclosure during his testimony in the Home Circuit Court.

He said the images were found on one of the four cell phones which Corporal David Pitt from the Flying Squad had taken to the Cybercrime Unit in October 2011.

The trial began in November last year and policemen have since testified of taking phones from some of the accused men who are on trial with Kartel.

Sergeant Linton said on October 22, 2011, he powered the particular cell phone on to his device and then extracted data which consisted of video files, audio files, photographic images, and textual data documents and other files. He said the data he got from the phone were created on August 16, 2011, and showed it was recorded at 10:34 p.m., and the recording was for two minutes and 17 seconds.

He said he observed a man on the video wearing dark clothes. He said there was another man wearing dark trousers and a red T-shirt and that man had a pickaxe stick in his hand. The image of the man went off the screen and returned about 11 seconds later and showed the man swinging the pickaxe stick. He said he was able to see a brown watch on the man's right hand and gold rings on two fingers.

He said there was another man on the video wearing a brown T-shirt with the letters ESI to the right side, an earring in the right ear and was making gestures and saying something. He said he saw a male of light complexion with several tattoos on the right hand. Later, the inside of the left arm was revealed showing the word 'Boss' and the word was clearly visible with bright-coloured red ink. The man also had tattoos on the forearms and was wearing a sliver chain around the neck with a face pendant.

He said towards the end of the video, another person of light complexion with several tattoos on the neck appeared. The witness said at that point, he took 68 snapshots of the video footage.

The court did not sit in the afternoon as one of the jurors fell ill during the luncheon adjournment and had to be rushed to hospital.

The prosecution is alleging that Clive 'Lizard' Williams was beaten and killed at Kartel's Havendale house, St Andrew, on August 16, 2011, over two missing guns.

Kartel is charged jointly with entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called 'Shawn Storm', Kahira Jones, Shane Williams, and André St John.
