WATERFORD, St Catherine:

RESIDENTS OF Waterford in Portmore, St Catherine, on Sunday commended the National Water Commission (NWC) for repairing a hydrant they claim had been leaking for close to 10 years, as well as a leaking pipe they say had been damaged during the erection of a Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) utility pole almost two years ago.

On Friday, Raymond Gibbs, zonal parish manager for St Catherine, promised the repairs would be done over the weekend after The Gleaner brought the matter to his attention that afternoon.

He was on hand Sunday to oversee the repairs, for which the affected residents were really happy.

"Is a good thing it fix because a long time the pipe burst and more times, mosquito would a kill you, and especially the baby them suffer," one woman shared.

Another person explained that the leak around the utility pole, which is located near to a walkway, posed an ever-present threat to the elderly and children especially, since the area around it was always wet and muddy.

"Me glad fi see them (NWC crew) because, when the time hot and the mosquito them deh bout and you haffi lock up inna the house, it really dread," a long-time resident shared.
