Refurbished Francis Isabella Road reopened

The Francis Isabella Road in Mount Salem, Montego Bay, which has been refurbished by the National Works Agency (NWA) at a cost of $6.7 million, was officially opened on January 24 by Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Richard Azan.

Addressing a large gathering, including students from the nearby Mount Salem Primary School, Azan said the project was funded through the Road Maintenance Fund.

He commended the contractors (Surrey Paving) for a job well done and for paving the inner section of the Mount Salem Primary School compound without any additional cost to the contract amount.

"When you go to school, you will not be faced with mud and other discomfort. Rather, you can walk in freedom and safety, and the students and teachers are much more comfortable and happy," the state minister said.

He also commended Member of Parliament Lloyd B. Smith for ensuring that the work was done properly.

Meanwhile, Smith commended the contractor for the new paved section of the school, noting that it would not have been possible without the intervention of Azan.

The state minister also toured other completed road-improvement projects carried out by the NWA such as the Johns Hall roadway and bridge, Capital Heights in Green Pond, and the Salt Spring Road in St James.
