Sweet Tings out of business
MegaMart CEO Gassan Azan has shuttered his Sweet Tings Bakery located in downtown Kingston.
The bakery which was opened in December 2010 was located at the intersection of Beckford and Princess streets but vendors in the area say the store has been closed since January.
When contacted, Azan did not deny the closure of the store but suggested Sunday Business contact him at a later date. Subsequent calls have, however, gone unanswered.
Sweet Tings was a $45-million investment by the Bashco and MegaMart CEO who at the time said the investment represented more than a "bread and patty" operation and was a part of his contribution towards the urban renewal of downtown Kingston.
The black, green and gold building housed a 2,700-square foot bakery with brick columns, awnings and a multimedia screen on the outside which blared the latest music videos. About 20 persons were employed at the location. Azan had converted a former Bashco store to create the bakery and pastry shop.
Sweet Tings offered a range of 60 items including specialty breads, muffins, various tarts and cakes and targeted corporate Jamaica as well as vendors in downtown Kingston. Azan had intended at start-up to grow the bakery to other heavily trafficked towns across Jamaica.
