Shipping industry participates in Logistics 101 course

More than 70 members of the shipping industry last Thursday participated in a Logistics 101 Course hosted by the Shipping Association of Jamaica.

The course, developed by the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, was delivered by Dr Fritz Pinnock, executive director of the CMI. The course is endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Heart Trust/NTA, and the Port Authority of Jamaica.

Participants received information on trends in the global shipping and logistics industry; the role and function of the global shipping gateways, including the Straits of Malacca, the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal; transhipment, the end of an era - integrated logistics an emerging opportunity; impact of globalisation; the future of global supply chains; and the changing role of education - focus on competency and future jobs. The course also outlined the crossroads at which Jamaica now finds itself and the road ahead.

Pinnock will be delivering the course, free of charge, to companies, government agencies, communities, associations, and service groups islandwide. Individuals will receive a certificate of participation Logistics 101.
