Gov't gets OK to dump Latibeaudiere

The Court of Appeal has cleared the way for the Government to terminate the employment of Viralee Latibeaudiere as commissioner of Tax Administration Jamaica.
Yesterday, the court upheld legal arguments from government lawyers that Latibeaudiere failed to file her fixed-date claim form in the time required when she was granted leave in August last year to go to the Judicial Review Court to challenge her dismissal.
However, attorney-at-law Hugh Wildman, who is representing Latibeaudiere, says she will be taking the issue to the United Kingdom Privy Council.
Solicitor General Nicole Foster Pusey and attorneys-at-law Carlene Larmond and Basil Williams, who represented the Government, told the court that Latibeaudiere's contract with the Government ended yesterday.
She was granted an injunction which had barred the Government from filling the post until the case was decided.
The Court of Appeal set aside the injunction yesterday when it handed down its decision and has promised to give its reasons in writing.
