Veteran selectors will be honoured at this year's staging of the annual Icons of Soul.

Winston 'Wee Pow' Powell and Rory from Stone Love are among the honourees to be recognised for their contribution to the Jamaican music and sound system industry. They will receive the Icons of Soul Sound System Ambassador Award.

Last year, Stone Love celebrated its 41st anniversary in the business, having entered the sound system field in 1972.

The brainchild of Wee Pow, the Stone Love moniker not only made its mark locally, but also became widely known on the international scene.

Many have considered the sound system the most potent and magnetic force in the business.

Icons of Soul will be celebrating its 12th anniversary on June 7 at the Rochdale Village Community Center in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

The show is expected to start at 9 p.m. The focus this year is ballroom dancing so guests are encouraged to don their most elegant wear for an evening of classic entertainment. Music will be by Jamaica's Glamour Wayne & Supa Fridge and Guyana's DJs Tony Samuels, and Cooley Boy.

Also to be honoured are Jamaica's DJ Glamour Wayne, DJ Tony Samuels from Guyana, Japan's Mighty Crown, and DJ Roy of Road International.

Over the years, Icons of Soul has recognised numerous individuals whom the promoters say help to keep New York's entertainment scene alive.

Last year's honourees included Angie Howell, Father Barney Dudley, Junior Rocatone, Tony The Dancer, Irie Myrie, Joan Dacres, and Joy Williams.
