Silver Birds to play pan at IOJ

The Silver Birds Steel Orchestra will perform at the Institute of Jamaica's (IOJ) Lunch Hour Concert next Thursday, June 5. The programme will start at 12:30 p.m. in the IOJ's Lecture Hall, East Street, Kingston.

The Lunch Hour Concert is free to the public and is facilitated by the IOJ's Programmes Coordination Division.

With a repertoire spanning jazz, R&B, reggae, soca, pop, gospel, country, Latin and more, the Silver Birds performing team brings charm and warmth to the stage through sweet steel band music, slick staging patterns, infectious stage persona, and exciting dance routines.

Founded by master drummer and instructor, Dean Barnett, on November 2, 2007, the group has grown rapidly over the short period to now have more than 40 members. The unique blend of the group's steel band music and choreography has caught the attention of top local and international corporate organisations.

With an array of visually stimulating costumes, matched with beautifully played instruments and enhanced by creative choreography, Silver Birds was voted Jamaica's top performing band for the year 2009 by the RJR Group. At the 2009 World Championship of Performing Arts, held in Hollywood, United States, musicians from the group gained the distinction of winning five gold medals, including the awards for Best Original and Best Instrumental.
