WESTERN BUREAU:

The two St James men who were arrested after 66 kilograms of cocaine was reportedly found in a Guardsman service vehicle in which they were travelling last April will return to court on September 26 when they will receive a trial date.

Fifty-four-year-old Owen Glaze, who was then employed as a security officer, and his co-accused, Andrew Brown, were given the new court date following their appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The allegations are that on April 20, 2013, Glaze and Brown were arrested after the vehicle in which they were travelling was searched by the police in Mount Carey, St James, and the cocaine, which was valued at approximately J$264 million, was found in the vehicle.

Yesterday, Clerk of the Court Natalie Malcolm told presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie that progress had been made to prepare the case for trial.

"We have made progress since the last occasion. I have received additional copies of one CD (data evidence)," said Malcolm.

The court was also told that the prosecution would provide copies of call-data records to Glaze and Brown's attorneys.

"I am in possession of the printed copy and digital version (of the call-data records), but I have not served counsel with the digital version," said Malcolm.

The case was subsequently set for mention on September 26, and Glaze and Brown had their bails extended.

"This matter is set for September 26. I expect to be able to tell you the trial date on September 26. Your bails are extended until then," Tie told the defendants.
