Way paved for Rihanna to testify in Chris Brown assault case

The California Supreme Court has decided not to intervene and delay R&B singer Chris Brown\'s preliminary hearing in his case that stems from an alleged assault on Barbadian pop star Rihanna, according to a report on CANANEWS.net.

The move paves the way for Rihanna, 21, to testify on June 22, when Brown is due back in court. A judge will then determine whether there is enough evidence for his case to go to trial.

Brown\'s lawyer, Mark Geragos, had sought to get the court to delay the hearing to allow the defence to attain police records that may provide some insight into a leaked photo of Rihanna following the alleged incident on February 8, 2009.

Media reports said the defence lawyer believes the photo will taint jury pools, preventing his client from getting a fair trial.

The 20 year-old R&B singer was arrested in February on suspicion that he assaulted Rihanna, who he was dating at the time.

Rihanna\'s lawyer Donald Etra earlier indicated that his client will cooperate with the Los Angeles District Attorney, who will likely call Rihanna to the stand on Monday.
