Criminals in Guyana declare war

A former security official in Guyana said gunmen who were involved in Sunday’s mass killing have declared war against the country.

David Granger said the killings have further exposed the weaknesses of the security forces.

12 people including three police officers were killed Sunday night, in the small mining town of Barticia, near the Brazilian border.

Three weeks ago 11 people including five children were killed after gunmen invaded a community, in the East Coast Demerara.

Sunday’s massacre forced the Bharrat Jagdeo administration to postpone yesterday’s reading of the national budget.

There have been calls for the government to declare a limited state of emergency.
