Bermuda minister seeks punishment for parents

A Cabinet Minister in Bermuda wants parents of children implicated in criminal activities punished.

Home Affairs Minister, David Burch said parents of children involved in crime should also face trial.

Mr. Burch said once a child is charged with a crime, the parent should be standing in the dock with the child.

Mr. Burch said he is seeking to steer this proposal into law.

Shadow Attorney General, Mark Pettingill has dismissed the proposal as nonsense as it would never work.

Mr. Pettingill said he is in favour of making parents more responsible for the whereabouts of their children.
