Annan threatens to leave Kenya

The chief peace negotiator in Kenya, Kofi Annan is threatening to leave, as mediator if a quick agreement is not reached between the opposition and ruling party.

Yesterday, negotiators for both the government and opposition left the talks, after only half day of the meeting.

Mr. Annan expressed his displeasure at the talks.

He said after four hours of intense negotiations the team made no progress in reaching an agreement on governance.

Last week Friday, Mr. Annan asked both the government and opposition to give their negotiators clear instructions so a swift conclusion could be reached.

More than 1,500 people have been killed in Kenya since violence erupted following the December 27 presidential election.
