President leads Dom Rep polls

The latest opinion poll in the Dominican Republic has reportedly placed President Leonel Fernandez in a lead against his closest rival ahead of the General Election in May.



The Gallup survey conducted for Hoy newspaper indicated that Mr. Fernandez of the Dominican Liberation Party would win 52 percent of the vote, if the election were held now.



The poll also found that Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Social Democratic Party of the Dominican Revolution would get 34.7 percent of the votes.



The poll, which was conducted over the past week, has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
