Security forces in the Nepalese capital Katmandu have stopped Tibetan protesters from reaching the UN building as tension sparked by violence in Tibet continues to spread across the region.

30 demonstrators were reportedly arrested.

The security forces used tear gas and batons to break up demonstrators, who want the UN to pressure the Chinese government to allow demonstrators to exercise their right to freedom of expression and assembly.

They also want the release of all Tibetans who have been arrested or detained.

Tension in Nepal has increased since the deadly protests in Tibet began late last week.

At least 80 person were reported as killed.
