Guyana to limit rice exports

The Government of Guyana said it wants to limit its rice exports to meet local demand, in the face of pressure to supply foreign markets.

Countries ranging from Panama to Senegal reportedly want to purchase more rice from Guyana because of the worldwide grain shortage.

Government officials in Georgetown are to meet this week, to discuss limiting exports to ensure that enough rice is available for human consumption.

Suriname has reportedly already given its own citizens assurances that they would have enough rice, despite pressures on Paramaribo to export more of the commodity.
