Barbados food prices hike

As food prices continue to soar, the cost of a pound of flour has gone up by 30 percent in Barbados.

According to BBC reports, this is the fourth increase in the country over the past two years.

The last increase was a 25 percent hike in October.

The David Thompson administration has given no indication whether it will reintroduce a flour subsidy following the latest price increase.

The Opposition Barbados Labour Party has warned of declining confidence within the domestic market, if the government does not make its position clear.

The United Nations World Food Program is appealing for donations to meet its US$96 million target.

This comes in the wake of the food crisis now gripping that country.

The President of the World Bank, Robert Zoellick said an additional US$10 million would be donated to the feeding programs in Haiti.
