No election run off

Zimbabwean opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai said he would not contest a run off election if certain conditions were not met.

Mr. Tsvangirai’s party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) believes he won last month’s presidential election over president Robert Mugabe.

A spokesman for the MDC, George Siboyshiwe said there must be a secure environment with thorough international monitoring, if Tsvangirai is to contest the run off.

He said current conditions do not allow for a free and fair vote.

Mr. Siboyshiwe said the party would only take part if the Southern African Development Community could help oversee every stage of the count.

United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon called on the authorities to make the election results public.
