The Opposition said the hike in fuel prices introduced by the government could lead to major economic slowdown in the country.

On Monday, Prime Minister, David Thompson announced that his administration could no longer provide a subsidy on oil.

The opposition Leader, Mia Mottley described the increases as unjustified saying the government could have done more to lessen the effect on consumers.

She further said the price hikes were not necessary.

The Barbados Light and Power Company said domestic customers would not have to pay more for electricity.

However, taxi and truck operators said their prices would increase.
