Democrats win US primaries

Senator Hillary Clinton has claimed victory over Barack Obama in Indiana\'s presidential primary, based on a narrow lead with most votes counted up to late last night.

Mr. Obama beat her in the other primary, in North Carolina.

The two states\' votes were the last major Democratic primaries, which help to decide the party\'s White House nominee.

Analysts said neither candidate scored a knockout blow, but Mr. Obama\'s lead looks increasingly unassailable.

A win in Indiana has been seen as critical for Mrs. Clinton, if she is to stay in the race to stand against Republican John McCain in November\'s presidential vote.
