British government rejects claim

The British government rejected a claim that its policies are leaving young black men to die as a result of gang crime.

The accusation was reportedly made by an independent government adviser, Dr. Derrick Campbell.

The Home Office minister, Tony McNulty, described his comments as irresponsible.

According to Mr. McNulty, more is being done by black community groups and others to deal with guns, gangs and knives than was the case some time ago.
