10 killed in Syria bombing

At least 10 people are now dead following an explosion in the centre of the Syrian capital Damascus.

State media say about 20 people were also wounded.

Reports said a terrorist suicide bomber is responsible for the blast near a mosque in the Midan area.

However, opposition activists are blaming the Syrian government.

The incident came after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned that the government was in contravention of a UN and Arab League-backed peace plan.

Ban demanded that Damascus comply with the peace plan brokered by envoy Kofi Annan without delay.
