The government of Suriname said its not worried by the decision of one of the world\'s largest bauxite companies, BHP Billiton, to shut down its local operations in the country within the next two years.

At least 1,100 workers will be laid off.

The government said it\'s working out plans to negotiate new deals with other companies to explore its remaining 300 million tonnes of bauxite reserves.

Bauxite is one of Suriname\'s top commodities, which brings in substantial revenues for the country.
