Police Service in Trinidad and Tobago is to implement a new unit to deal with the country’s spiraling crime rate.

Trinidad Express newspaper reported that members of the protective services are to be equipped with a new fleet of vehicles.

Police Commissioner Trevor Paul vowed to wage war on criminals, and sought to assure the citizens that matters implicating police personnel will be thoroughly investigated.

Less than two weeks after his declaration, Mr. Paul was reportedly called to answer allegations by a former Member of Parliament that there was a death squad in the police service.

The allegation came after the police reportedly shot dead four men in Central Trinidad.
